The development status of the PVC industry

With the rapid development of the national economy, my country’s PVC production capacity is rapidly increasing. Since 2007, my country’s PVC production capacity has generally shown an increasing trend. According to data from the China Chlor-Alkali Industry Association, in 2021, China’s total polyvinyl chloride (PVC) production capacity will reach 27.13 million tons per year, an increase of 490,000 tons per year compared with 2020. 

Affected by factors such as cold waves, hurricanes and floods, the start-up of PVC plants in the United States and Europe has been greatly restricted, the supply in the international market has tightened, and prices have risen rapidly. The domestic PVC import volume has dropped significantly, the proportion of general trade import volume has dropped, and the import method of imported materials processing has become the dominant method again. According to customs statistics, in 2021, the total import volume of PVC pure powder in my country will be 399,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 57.9%.

In 2021, supported by the tight supply of foreign goods and the continuous rise in prices, China’s PVC exports will increase significantly, but the contradiction of tight ocean shipping capacity will be more prominent in the second half of the year, limiting the further growth of China’s PVC exports. The data shows that in the whole year of 2021, the cumulative export volume of my country’s PVC pure powder reached 1.754 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 177.8%.

In terms of export destinations, my country’s PVC pure powder products are mainly exported to parts of South Asia, Southeast Asia and Central Asia. India is still the main destination for China’s PVC pure powder exports. In 2021, China’s PVC pure powder exports to India It reached 304,000 tons, accounting for 17.33% of China’s total exports; 220,000 tons of PVC pure powder exported to Vietnam, accounting for 12.5%; 160,000 tons of PVC pure powder exported to Bangladesh, accounting for 9.1%.

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) paste resin, as the name implies, is mainly used in the form of paste. People often use this paste as plastisol, which is a unique liquid form of polyvinyl chloride plastic in the unprocessed state. . Paste resins are often prepared by emulsion and microsuspension methods. According to the data of the General Administration of Customs, in the month of December 2021, the import volume of paste resin in my country was 6,300 tons, a decrease of 34.5% compared with the same period in 2020; in the month of December, the export volume of paste resin in my country was 9,200 tons, which was significantly higher than the same period in 2020. An increase of 452.7%.

In 2021, my country will import a total of 84,600 tons of paste resin, and domestic paste resin is mainly imported from Taiwan, Germany, Malaysia and other places, accounting for 30.66%, 28.49%, and 13.76% respectively in 2021

In 2021, the cumulative domestic export of paste resin is 77,000 tons, of which 16,300 tons will be exported to India in 2021, accounting for 21.1% of the total export volume; 15,500 tons will be exported to Turkey, accounting for 20.1%; 9,400 tons will be exported to Vietnam, accounting for 12.2% .
